In Blue Oula, que ce dernier album a fait du bruit ! Commercialement, c’est plutôt bien joué. Avec cet album, le groupe en a pris plein la figure. C’est plus ou moins mérité en fait. Il est vrai que ce virage pop commerciale n’est vraiment le bienvenue car contrairement à ce que beaucoup de personnes pensait déjà avant In Blue, The Corrs, ce n’est justement pas un groupe de pop commerciale (encore faut-il avoir entendu une autre chanson que So Young…). Cela dit, il faut dire que le virage se fait plutôt en douceur car on note ici et là quelques bonnes choses. Mais bon, l’intention du groupe était clair dès le début, conquérir les Etats-Unis avec une musique au format plus accessible, c’est plutôt humble de ne pas le cacher et d’assumer finalement, si le groupe a quelque peu changer son style, c’est pour plaire à un public plus nombreux mais aussi différents, je suis pas sûr qu’on puisse leur en vouloir pour ça… Sauf si on pense à tous les fans du début, les fans de cet pop celtique, qui s’ils n’avait pas été là, n’auraient jamais donné au groupe la possibilité de changer leur style de musique, enfin, c’est un grand débat… Certes le style à changer, mais il faut comment prendre le temps d’écouter cet album car si l’on oublie toutes les chansons à fin purement commerciales telles que Breathless, All The Love Of The World, Irresistable, chansons co-écrites par Mutt Lange (Producteur et accessoirement mari de Shania Twain, ça fait beaucoup pour un seul homme…), et bien, cet album, il est pas mal du tout, si si, je vous assure, il y a vraiment de très bonnes choses. Des chansons plus ou moins légères, plus ou moins rythmées mais toujours très bien produites. On retiendra Somebody For Someone, un très beau morceau avec clavier, guitare acoustique, solo de violon, le chant est très inspiré et les chœurs de Sharon et Caroline Corr sont comme toujours très sophistiqués et très beau. Give Me A Reason est mélodiquement très belle, il est dommage qu’elle soit produite de façon « dance » avec batterie plus ou moins électronique. Say est quant à elle une de mes préférées. La production est remarquable, la basse très présente et les harmonies vocales sont sublimes, notamment ce break où Sharon chante toute seule, c’est originale et vraiment très classe. Les violons enveloppent le tout, un très bon morceau donc. All The Love In The World, on oublie tout de suite, d’accord, c’est beau mais ça a déjà été fait des milliers de fois, le morceau commercial par excellence, au même titre que Breathless, dans un style différent. Radio, c’est n’est pas un nouveau morceau puisqu’on a pu le découvri sur l’Unplugged. La version électrique est assez réussie, les riffs de guitare, les chœurs et la forte présence de la basse et bien sûr, la mélodie rendent ce morceau très écoutable. Irresistable est intéresante, il est dommage que le refrain soit aussi grand public car comme l’explique Sharon dans le petit reportage sur In Blue du Dvd Live At Laonsome Road, les couplets de cette chanson sont vraiment très sombres et le mélange est plutôt original. One Night fait partie des splendeurs de l’album, un morceau calme, triste, le trvail des voix est sublime, unique. All In A Day, mouais… Une chanson agréable à écouter mais qui me fait penser à quelque chose, c’est peut-être tout simplement pas assez original, dommage car le violon rend toujours aussi bien. At Your Side, même chose que pou Radio, le morceau est disponible sur l’Unplugged. La version électrique n’apporte rien de plus, si ce n’est un refrain plus rythmé. Je trouve que c’est justement le genre de morceau qui se veut acoustique et intimiste comme sur l’Unplugged. Le chant y était meilleur d’ailleurs mais ce n’est que mon avis. No More Cry, voilà une chanson qui surprend, le chant y est vraiment très original durant le couplet. Le refrain est très entraînant, par contre le break fait aussi penser quelque chose, dans le genre de No Doubt. Un morceau en tout cas très court, 2 minutes 50 mais qui s’écoute car la performance au chant est remarquable. Rain est un morceau beaucoup plus calme, assez soul. Une fois de plus la voix fait toute la différence et les chœurs transcendent le morceau, c’est pur et beau. Give It All Up, est certainement le morceau le plus controversé de l’album, c’est une sorte de raggae ; ça sonne très The Cardigans, et les cuivres et bien, je sais pas, ça passe pas trop, pour moi les Corrs, c’est la flûte irlandais mais bon, y’a plus de saison… Heureusement que suit Hurt Before, qui fait oublier le petit dérapage précédent. Il s’agit tout simplement d’une des plus belles chansons du groupe. Le break est touchant et le solo de violon est excellent, du grand art que seul The Corrs maîtrise ou maîtrisait… Enfin, Rebel Heart, l’instrumental de l’album, la lueur d’espoir, qui nous fait penser que le groupe n’est pas prêt à renier ses origines, des origines qui depuis maintenant 10 ans leur ont permis d’en arriver là. C’est donc le morceau le plus celtique de l’album, la mélodie violon/Tin Wistle est splendide, dommage que les chœurs ne durent que si peu de temps car c’est vraiment magnifique. Tout est bien qui finit bien finalement… Que retenir de cet album ? Une démarche commerciale évidente ? Trop évident, trop facile car l’album contient quand même de pures merveilles. Non, ce qu’il faut retenir, c’est l’incroyable maturité que le groupe a su acquérir durant tant d’années. C’est encore plus vrai pour Andrea, la chanteuse qui a beaucoup plus d’assurance voire plus e feeling parfois. Selon le groupe, (cf Dvd LR), c’est leur album le plus mature, c’est peut-être ce qu’on peut en retenir. En tout cas, à la place de Mutt Lange, je ne serais pas vraiment fier d’avoir cet capacité à rendre un groupe brillant complètement insignifiant et donc commercial, je pense bien sûr aux morceaux qu’il a co-écrit. Il est dommage que les groupes talentueux soient désormais obligés de rentrer dans un moule pour plaire à un plus grand nombre. Où est donc la magie dans cette démarche ? Un journaliste écrivait en parlant de la conquête des USA que le pire c’est que très peu de personnes ont le romantisme suffisant pour comprendre la musique des Corrs. Je crois que c’est plutôt positif pour les fans du groupe de la première heure… 8 morceaux vraiment intéressants sur 15, d’où le note… Note : 5,3/10 Par Julien, Janvier 2001. |

Breathless A catchy song and chorus even more so, the ending is a good one to finish with- the reason for it's no.1 success. The lyrics are not as good as other songs on this album, but they are acceptable for this kind of song. The guitars are excellent and so are the drums, they are very powerful. The way the backing sing is done is brilliant as it is on all the songs !
Give me a reason This song has really good lyrics that suits the sad tune of the verses, although it's hard to tell the words without knowing them at times. The guitar is very strong in this and very interesting. The violin in this is beautiful and the way the drums and guitar come together with the violin is perfect.
Somebody for someone The start to this is a really good one with the keyboard first starting then the guitar, with the best riff in the album. The lyrics of this are not understandable but it doesn't matter as this is not a deep kind of song. The way the chorus is sung by Andrea is great, it shows off how skilled she is. The way the second chorus is sung with Sharon and Caroline singing in the background really goes well. The violin part sounds very sixties with the guitar and what sounds like the sitar playing also. The third chorus is the best with Sharon and Caroline copying Andreas words so prettily. The ending of this is a perfect thing to finish on.
Say The lyrics of this one are a bit confusing but they seem to be excellent if you understand them. The guitar is very good as always. The chorus of this is great because it's catchy without getting annoying after a time. The voices in this blend together so well. There's also an interesting part said more than sung by Caroline and Sharon in the middle with the guitar playing a perfect riff at the end adding a violin being played sharply making it more dramatic. The ending is good because it ends with just one word sung harmoniously by all the sisters.
All the love in the world This song sound like a Savage Garden song because of the guitar, it also resembles a 911 song in the way that the voices are put together and in the way they are sung. The lyrics are not very good but this is a poppy song so it's expected. The two things that makes this song a bit better is Andreas singing, the backing singing isn't notably good but the tin whistle bit is very beautiful. This song goes a bit slowly and is repetitive which is why it comes last in my rating but younger people might like it.
Radio The organ in this make this song sound creepy and so does the way the guitar is played in staccato. This song definitely gets better as it goes on. The singing is usually very good in this although sometimes sounding strange. In my opinion the violin is the best part of this but it's way too short. This is not as good as the Unplugged version.
Irresistible The guitar in this is very powerful and high pitched. The violin in this makes the song sound more uplifting. The lyrics in this song are lovely and it's surprising on a song like this. The way the guitar repeats itself is really interesting. The singing in this is nothing special compared to other songs but this doesn't matter because this song keeps you listening because of the changes from lively pace to slower, this song is a good song to play if you are feeling down, it will definitely cheer you up.
One night The best aspect of this song is the lyrics they are really sad but pretty. The violin amplifies the sad feeling to this song, although this song is repetitive and even mundane at times and seeming easy for Andrea to sing, it somehow keeps you listening. The deep hollow sound of the guitar is probably the best part.

This song is a really good one. The guitar sound perfect for this song. This songs lyrics are almost dark the music suits the lyrics which are really good lyrics. The singing in this is excellent by Andrea and Sharon and carlines singing is very smooth and really is good for this song. The chorus for this song is the best part as it's only one line sang slowly then repeated sharply with a short piece on the violin played to end it which has a dramatic effect. The violin also has a part in the song on it's own played with the same tune but longer and the notes played abruptly and shortly.
At your side This song is not as good as the one on Unplugged but it is still brilliant. The guitar is played the same as on unplugged which makes the song keep the class of the at your side on Unplugged. The drums are a bit hyped which can be annoying at times but some people could find the way the drum is played interesting. The singing is interesting and is sung really well . The violin is kept the same also which gives this song a carefree feel a bit like so young.
No more cry The lyrics to this song written about the bands mothers death are sometimes sad as you would expect the tune however is not. This song is very fast and it requires Andrea to sing very quickly indeed. The drums are excellent and the guitar is lively. The backing singing is done really well in this one and is in the right places. There is also an excellent part near the end which is really cool and the guitar is great and suits the singing in that part which is rocky from this part till the end is the best part with lively and upbeat singing.
Rain This song is a bit like a soul type song at times. It is languid and a very relaxing song. The guitar is quite slow at the start leading you into the song. The singing is very slow too, it's is really good singing and the voices of Andrea, Sharon and Caroline blend in together at the chorus. The violin part is played smoothly and it’s so beautifully played.
Give it all up The start of this song is very annoying because it sounds like a broken radio. But the songs catchiness makes up for it, Although Andrea is singing like she belongs in the cardigans. The lyrics are very good and makes you think it might be about Sharon and her fiance, the guitars simple riff is very effective and the trumpet makes this song listenable.
Hurt before The softness of the violin suits this songs sad and lazy sound. The lyrics for this are very sweet and the style of the music suits it excellently. The guitar is really nice and at first only playing occasionally. The singing by all the sister in this is lovely with Sharon and Caroline singing more deep and Andrea managing very high notes. The ending for this song is perfect.
Rebel Heart The drum on this is really interesting. The violin on this is perfect and uplifting with the tin whistle intensifying the prettiness later. The voices start to come in at the end first slowly then quite loud, in the style of Erin Shore. This ends with the tin whistle being played a lot louder than the violin showing off Andrea's skills not just as a singer.
